The agreement was signed by CEO in AquaGen, Nina Santi and general manager in Profunda, Helge Ressem on March 30, 2017.
Unique water quality
The facility is placed on a moraine ridge, and has an almost unlimited capacity of marine groundwater from wells drilled fifty meters down in the ground. The thick gravel materials provide a very good filtering of the seawater, and this gives an unique biosafety status of the water and the fish produced. Profunda has, since 2010 produced several generations of salmon broodstock. Throughout the production period there has been no incidents of disease or detections of fish virus at the plant.
The tank volume at the facility is currently 1,350 m3, and there are large areas available for expansion of the capacity. The facility also has access to fresh ground water.
Strategic investment
"The acquisition of Profunda is a strategically important investment, because it ensures delivery of eggs from AquaGen throughout the year," says Nina Santi, CEO in AquaGen.

AquaGen intend to supply all salmon egg markets, and the purchase of Profunda will be an important step to achieving this goal. Profunda will be further developed and AquaGen plan to make significant investments to increase capacity at the facility.
The employees are satisfied
Profunda currently has seven permanent employees with extensive expertise in land-based broodstock production, fish health and plant operations. "The employees have received the news of our new owners with great enthusiasm and look forward to cooperate with AquaGen, which is the global leading breeding company for salmonids," says Helge Ressem, general manager in Profunda. Ressem will continue in his position as the general manager at the facility after the takeover.
"Three key elements must be in place for successful land-based broodstock production; water of excellent quality, suitable area and proper competence. At Profunda we found all the elements necessary to succeed, "says Santi.
